The Benefits of Raw Honey

The Benefits of Raw Honey
Hey there,

We’re constantly hearing about the many
benefits of raw, unprocessed honey. But
as it turns out, it’s also really good
for your skin!

There are lots of antibacterial products
on the market, and sometimes you need
that sort of treatment for your face. But
instead of applying something that’s
commercially made with added chemicals,
try this next time instead.

Thoroughly cleanse the spot on your skin
that needs antibacterial treatment, then
apply a teaspoon of raw, unprocessed honey
to the area and gently massage it into the
skin. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then rinse
with warm water. Repeat until the infection
is gone.

The same type of treatment can be used as
a face mask, too.

After removing all of your makeup, take a
teaspoon of honey and gently work it into
your face. And don’t worry about it stripping
your skin. Honey is very calming, so it won’t
hurt your face at all. Let it sit for 10
minutes and then rinse with warm water, just
like a regular face mask.

Raw honey is also anti-inflammatory.
Sometimes our skin needs some cooling down,
and when you’re looking to adopt a more natural
skincare routine you want to shy away from
chemicals.

So if an area on your body is irritated and
inflamed, simply take a teaspoon of honey and
let it sit for 10 minutes or so, just like the
other treatments, and then rinse off with warm
water.

Whenever possible, try to purchase locally-sourced
honey. Just make sure that it’s raw and unprocessed,
too.

If you’re really feeling luxurious, then consider
using raw honey as a mask on other parts of your
body, too. Such as your legs, arms, and even your
neck. It’s not just our face that needs some love!

These are just a few ways to use all-natural, raw
honey as part of your skincare routine.

In next week's blog, I'll discuss the benefits of
papaya as part of your natural skincare routine!

The Benefits of Oatmeal

The Benefits of Oatmeal
Hey there,

If you have ever taken a look at all of
the bath and body products at your local
drugstore, then you’ve probably seen a lot
that contain oatmeal.

That’s because it’s considered to be nature’s
exfoliator.

But before you go rubbing some of the
quick-cooking oats that you probably have
in your pantry all over your body, you should
know they are different than what we’re talking
about.

Colloidal oatmeal is what the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) approves as a natural way
to treat dry skin. This is a finely ground powder
from natural oats that dissolves in water.

Especially if you have eczema, which is an
extreme, medically diagnosed form of dry skin.

So if your skin needs a little moisturizing, then
keep reading to learn about ways to use colloidal
oatmeal as part of your natural skincare routine!

If you decide to use freshly ground, colloidal
oatmeal, then here’s an idea to use it as an
all-over body scrub.

Just mix some up with locally-sourced, organic honey,
add some water and then apply it to your clean skin,
focusing on areas that are extremely dry such as your
elbows and knees. Massage it in for about a minute,
and then rinse off with warm water and pat dry.

You can use it on your face, too. Apply the same
mixture to your freshly-cleansed skin, massaging
it for about a minute and then rinse off.

If the bottom of your feet, especially your soles,
often get dry then this is a great way to soften them
up. Simply use the same mixture while holding it over
a foot bath.

You can also prepare some ahead of time and put it in
a jar, then leave it on your skin. Simply use it as a
hand scrub every time you wash up.

Soap and water can actually dry out your skin, so use it
as often as possible.

Making your own skincare products can be easy
and fun plus you now know all the ingredients!

These are just a few ways to use all-natural, colloidal
oatmeal as part of your skincare routine.

The Benefits of Jojoba Oil

The Benefits of Jojoba Oil
Welcome to our next blog series: Toxin-Free Skin Care!

In this series we'll be looking at great toxin-free
alternatives to keep your skin looking fabulous!
Enjoy this first post about a wonderful carrier oil,
Jojoba.

When making the decision to switch to a more
natural skincare routine, you might be surprised
to hear about all of the benefits of jojoba oil.

For starters, it’s non-comedogenic. Which means
that it won’t clog your pores.

This is especially good news for those of us with
sensitive skin, the kind that tends to easily break
out from the use of facial oil.

And part of your skincare routine is to remove
excess dirt and oil from your face, so knowing that
a natural oil won’t cause buildup is a major plus.

Another benefit of jojoba oil is that structurally
speaking, it’s incredibly similar to the natural sebum
that your own skin produces.

Which is why so many people use it as a daily moisturizer,
seeing as how it comes straight from nature.

If you’re someone who often wears makeup, then here’s
yet another reason to add jojoba oil to your skincare
routine: it’s a game-changer when it comes to removing
stubborn makeup.

This means that instead of using makeup-removal wipes
before you even wash your face, a quick application of
jojoba oil will do the trick. I especially love this for mascara
removal.

And this is also good for the environment, since you won’t
be adding those wipes to your garbage or septic system.

If those two benefits haven’t convinced you to incorporate
jojoba oil into your natural skincare routine, then maybe
this will.

Jojoba oil is full of natural, anti-inflammatory properties.

Inflammation of the skin happens when you’ve been outside too
long under the sun, perhaps with either very little or no
sunscreen, and your skin gets sunburned. Aloe vera will help,
but so will jojoba oil.

Or perhaps you’ve been picking at a zit or have a wound on
your face that’s become irritated. Try applying a little bit
of jojoba oil to see if the natural, anti-inflammatory
properties help calm your skin down.

You can easily find jojoba oil in whole food shops,
health stores and even beauty retailers. Look for ones
that are 100% and all natural, and test it out on a small
part of your skin first.

In our next blog post I'll discuss the benefits of oatmeal
as part of your natural skincare routine!
