Thank you for joining the written portion of my blog!!  If you haven't checked out the great information on our sense of smell in my video, you can see it right here!!

Boy, our sense of smell is powerful; 10,000 times more acute than our other senses.  No wonder aromas can have such a powerful affect on our bodies!

I disussed how when we smell aromas it enters our bodies and stimulates the olfactory pathways.  These pathways are closely connected with the limbic system of the brain.  When we smell something it may trigger changes within this system and therefore stimulating responses of several of our systems, including the nervous, endocrine, respiratory and immune systems.

This is why inhaling essential oils can be so powerful for us.  But did you ever wonder about the other scents we come into contact with?  Sometimes, we don't even know we are smelling something that is harmful to our bodies.  For instance candles, we think they are providing a romantic and warm environment.  But here's the real truth.  Commonly emitted VOCs related to the scent in candles include formaldehyde, petroleum distillates, limonene, alcohol and esters. These harmful chemicals can cause health problems ranging from headaches, dizziness and allergy symptoms to asthma attacks, respiratory tract infections and even cancer.

In fact, fragrance is now considered the new second-hand smoke!  More than 95 percent of the chemicals in synthetic fragrances are derived from petrochemicals. These chemicals include: benzene derivatives, aldehydes, phthalates, and a slew of other known toxins that are capable of causing cancer, birth defects, nervous-system disorders and allergies—some of which are cited on the EPA’s hazardous waste list.  The Environmental Working Group (EWG) researchers found more than 75 percent of products listing the ingredient “fragrance” contained phthalates (THAL-ates) which have been shown to disrupt hormone activity, reduce sperm counts, and cause reproductive malformation, and have been linked to liver and breast cancer, diabetes, and obesity. Additionally, studies by Dr. Philip J. Landrigan of the Mount Sinai Children’s Environmental Health Center, link fetal exposure with autism, ADHD, and neurological disorders.

These are the reasons I started looking into the products in our home!  Check out my FREE class below, where I share lots of  recipes to replace those toxic products and create that cozy home without the health risks!! I'm excited to share these with you.  An amazing leader, Christie Rose, put these together and I love using all of the great ideas in our home!! My favorite is the Chai Tea!!

Adrenal Support

As we discuss recharging our bodies, I have to tell you that using these two essential oils have been a lifesaver for my adrenals!!  I find nutmeg to irritate my skin on it's own, so I use a bit of coconut oil.  Apply 1-2 drops of NUTMEG over adrenals (found on mid back just about an inch on either side of your spine) first thing in the morning.  I then apply a drop of ENDOFLEX over my thyroid and a drop or two over my adrenals as well!  Check out the picture below. The adrenal glands are the yellow on top of the kidneys.   Need to get some of these oils?  CLICK HERE TO GET STARTED
